Itinerary
Day 1
Kizhi day 1
- 9 am Meet your guide and driver in the morning at the train station
- You'll proceed with a short orientation tour of the capital of Karelia with its various sightseeing spots. The excursion will feature a relaxing stroll along the Onega Lake embankment with stops to see outstanding contemporary sculptures.
- 11.30 am Departure for Kizhi Island by hydrofoil.
- Upon arrival to Kizhi, you'll take a 10-min boat ride to reach your guest house, which is on the mainland right opposite Kizhi Island. Kizhskaya Blagodat is a cozy family-run guest house located at the shore of Lake Onega. The place will surprise you with its quietness, tasty home-made food, and its owners' friendliness and hospitality. The house owner's father was the head carpenter, who restored the Transfiguration church in the Soviet time.
- 2 pm Lunch in a guest house
- 3 pm Boat excursion to enjoy the tranquility of the area, beautiful views of the lakes. During the tour, you'll discover numerous ancient wooden churches and houses that are part of the famous Kizhi Necklace.
- Dinner in the evening. Optional sauna or fishing

- 9 am Breakfast
- 9 – 9.10 am Transfer to Kizhi Island by boat. Take your time to feel the magical atmosphere of the morning filled with the melody of bell ringing. The crowds are not here yet: most tourists will arrive later at 11 am from Petrozavodsk.Touring the island, you'll see the fairy-tale-like wooden Transfiguration Church with its 22 domes. The wooden architecture complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
- Lunch break
- Visit several authentic old houses that give you a sense of how people lived here in the past. Thus, you might see an old lady spindling thread, a carpenter working with his ax, or listen to church choir singing. You'll visit the carpenter's center in the northern part of the island and learn about the restoration of the main church of Kizhi. You'll have a stop at the highest point of the island to enjoy the stunning view of Onego Lake and Kizhi island.
- Free time for optional activities: you may rent a bicycle or join some of the masterclasses.
- 16:45 Transfer to Petrozavodsk by hydrofoil (1 hour 15 minutes).
- 18:15 Arrival in Petrozavodsk. Transfer to the railway station.
